Chelsea puts a case forward for Games

Games,” she said of her shot put progress.

“Just mentally I wasn’t really in it, which was fine, I gave my body a bit more of a break.”

With the two sports involving training that is counter-productive to the other, Lenarduzzi’s focus will rest with league until the representative season passes.

Such is the wrap on the front or second-rower that she was picked for her SEQ debut last year after a mere handful of games in the sport.

That experience – and being part of Burleigh’s second straight women’s premiership – has fasttracked improvement in her game. Lenarduzzi explained her transition to rugby league stemmed from her missing being involved in team sport after moving to the Gold Coast from interstate.

“I feel like the team aspect is better than any other team sport I have played,” she said.

“It’s a tighter team because you kind of have to be to help each other not get smashed.”

The Water Dragons play Central Queensland tonight before taking on Northern Queensland tomorrow. From the carnival, selection for the state team will be finalised.

“I want to go as far as possible obviously because otherwise why are you doing it?” she said.

After the rep season, the Commonwealth Games will become the big focus.

Lenarduzzi has a training personal best of 16.08m but needs to improve that mark to reach the shot put qualifying standard of 16.42m.

“I haven’t thrown anywhere near it in comp. I definitely know I can throw it though, it is just a matter of not getting injured,” she said.
