Politics put aside in wake of horror
BRITISH political parties have suspended their general election campaigns for the second time in as many weeks in the wake of a horror terror attack.
Representatives of all parties announced yesterday morning they would temporarily walk away from the campaign trail.
Prime Minister Theresa May suspended her Conservative Party’s national campaign for Sunday, just four days out from the poll.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn suspended his party’s campaign for the June 8 vote and said it was a mark of respect for the lives lost.
“We will stand together to defend our common values of solidarity, humanity and justice, and will not allow terrorists to derail our democratic process,” he said.
The Liberal Democrats and The Greens also suspended their campaigns, while the Scottish National Party, Scottish Labour and the Scottish Liberal Democrats cancelled national campaign events.
Just two weeks ago election campaigning was called off in the wake of the Manchester bombing.
It is not clear when campaigning will resume.
