TIME TO BE TOUGH
IF the Lindt cafe siege taught us anything, it is that hard decisions have to be made quicker than those by senior police in that tragic episode in 2014.
And as recent acts of slaughter around the world have shown, governments have to be prepared to unleash their attack dogs – crack squads of armed troops – even in heavily populated cities. There is much to consider as our Commonwealth Games draw near. States are reluctant to allow military intervention in domestic cases but the SAS should play a role if required. Internet giants like Facebook are also under fire for not blocking the spread of extremist material. Unless they act, draconian restrictions may follow and everybody will suffer.
