Title: WeirDo 6: Crazy Weird Author: Anh Do Illustrator: Jules Faber Publisher: Scholastic

THIS is the sixth book in Anh Do’s series for younger readers.

The novel’s theme is about Weir Do facing every kid’s nightmare … wearing braces.

After getting braces he is really embarrassed and doesn’t want anyone to see them for 18 months, which leads to some hilarious scenarios.

Jules Faber’s illustrations add to the humour. An example is when Weir’s friends are playing a magnet game and Weir is scared of the magnet being attracted to the metal in his mouth.

Faber did a clever illustration in which you have to fold the dotted line to meet the other dotted line and once you do that it makes it look like the tossed magnets are flying into his braces.

Overall the main character Weir Do is a likeable character and a lot of kids will be able to relate to his experience at the dentist.

This novel is pretty funny and good for the younger readers who are looking for a book that’s not too hard to read but is fun at the same time. I would recommend

WeirDo 6: Crazy Weird for the 5-8 age groups.
