Twin ruckmen a potential winner
BRISBANE’S experiment with two ruckmen could be a matchwinner against Fremantle with Aaron Sandilands racing the clock to make the trip across the country.
Sandilands missed the Dockers’ loss to Collingwood in Perth on Sunday with a hamstring injury and is no certainty to return this week.
The 33-year-old was initially selected to play but was a late withdrawal.
Jonathon Griffin carried the load for the Dockers and was beaten by Magpie Brodie Grundy whose midfielders also won the clearance battle.
Archie Smith joined Stefan Martin in the Lions side that played Collingwood the week before their bye and would be unlucky to lose his place.
Smith gave the forward line a different look and the side loses nothing at ball-ups when he is in the ruck.
Although he is not a possession gatherer like Martin, he is taller, has a superior leap and as he develops has the potential to be a better tap ruckman than Martin.
The pair could prove a point of difference against the Dockers, especially if Sandilands is ruled out.
