Aboriginal Spit proposal doomed
PLANS for a $15 million “integrated resort” at The Spit have been unveiled, however the State Government has poured cold water on it ever being realised.
Homeland, an Aboriginal cultural centre, is proposed for the same site as the ASF Consortium’s planned $3 billion resort and would be “eco friendly”. Put forward by Surfers Paradise charity Child’s Vision, it would create more than 300 jobs and feature temporary accommodation which would allow families and school groups to learn about more than 40,000 years of Aboriginal history.
ASF is the preffered proponent to develop an IRD, al- though outcomes of the recent community consultation are currently being considered.
Because of this process, the Bulletin understands no other proposals will be considered until its resolution.
A State Government spokesman for special projects said the alternative plans also did not fit the criteria for an IRD.
