Gold Coasters shivering through winter’s first icy blasts are in for an unwelcome surprise when a dumping of rain is added to the mix.

As much as 55mm of rain could fall across the weekend, according to Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Michael Paech. “We’re expecting a surface trough to come through on Saturday and with it increased chances of shower activity,” Mr Paech said.
