HE’S just six years old but Harrison Allen’s first book is already on the shelves of his school library.

The grade 1 student at A.B. Paterson College wrote and illustrated a book about the weather – his favourite topic which his mother, Renee Allen, laminated and gave to the school.

School librarian Melinda Parkinson ensured the book was catalogued in the school library for others to borrow.

“It makes me happy that (my friends) think it’s good,” Harrison said of his book, which has proved popular.

“Lots of people want to have it.”

A storm-chaser in the making, Harrison has always been a weather buff.

“He’s gotten a huge buzz from having his book in the library,” Ms Allen of Labrador said, adding he had initiated the idea of publishing a book when she was encouraging him to write more.

“He loves math but is slow with writing.

“He’s always been interested in the weather so from a very young age he’s been watching storm chasing. That recent cyclone, you couldn’t get him away from the telly.”

Ms Allen said she typed out what Harrison had written before scanning in his carefully drawn illustrations and laminating the book.

Harrison is already planning a second book – also about the weather.
