OLYMPIAN WILLIS MAKES TRAINING CHILD’S PLAY

-

TRAINING for a marathon is hard work but not when you have an Olympian and three-time national running champion on your side.

Students from Ashmore State School will take part in the school challenge category of the 39th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon next month.

The kids have been training religiously, but after winning a competition they yesterday had the chance to hear from a champion.

Benita Willis, who is also the Gold Coast Airport Marathon ambassador, ran kids through her top tips for success, including hard work, determination and patience.

The unique training session coincided with Global Running Day and was possible due to the school getting a large number of students registered for the marathon by April 30.

Ms Willis also presented acting Principal, Leigh Josey, with a piece of her Olympic Games memorabilia.

The 38-year-old has been an ambassador for the event since 2014.
