NZ stable pays price

-

HAVING lodged what effectively amounts to a $36,000 penalty to Racing Queensland yesterday, Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis is looking forward to recouping the funds at Doomben on Saturday.

The New Zealand stable had to lodge $18,000 late entries for Melody Belle (J.J. Atkins) and Shocking Luck (Derby) after it missed the first acceptance deadline last week.

Both horses are favourites for their respective races after acceptances yesterday.

While Ellis is a little bemused no one from this side of the ditch picked up on the omission before the deadline last week, he has accepted his fate and is now hoping it’s a good investment.

“It was our fault,” Ellis said of missing the deadline.

“Now we’re looking forward to the weekend and absolutely our goal and our attitude is to turn it into a good investment.”
