Grant’s call no issue: Titans
chairman of the Commission,” she said.
“He has been exceptional for the game and we appreciate the loyalty he has shown in support of our club in particular and respect his decision.
“Anyone that takes that role on does so with their eyes open. It’s very, very difficult and I think he has managed and done very well during his chairmanship.”
Grant’s decision to quit as chairman will bring about rugby league’s biggest administration shake-up since the independent commission came into power.
A replacement is expected to come from outside the current commissioners with NSW Rugby League chairman and former Test player George Peponis or Racing NSW boss Peter V’landys the frontrunners.
Peponis would have to stand down from his NSW Rugby League role.
With Grant on the way out there are only three “originals’’ left on the commission – Wayne Pearce, Catherine Harris and Chris Sarra who have all been there since the start.
It is unlikely all three will stay, especially as Harris and Pearce have been huge Grant supporters.
Grant and Harris were up for reappointment in 2018, Sarra, Gary Weiss and Pearce in 2019 with Tony McGrath in 2020.
