LNP: Surfers needs love
THE Gold Coast Waterways Authority will run out of money for its most urgent projects unless it gets a massive boost in funding from the State Budget, the Opposition warns.
The priority jobs at risk are Surfers Paradise Riverside being revamped before the Commonwealth Games and more dredging of the Broadwater.
A Bulletin report last month detailed how the GCWA had a master plan in place with the council for the riverside redevelopment but lacked funding.
Previous budget figures released by Ports Minister Mark Bailey show $760,000 was allocated for dredging of the Broadwater in 2016-17 but nothing in the forward planning indicates that money will be set aside in 2017-18.
“With the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games less than a year away, we need to reinvigorate Surfers Paradise,” Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek said.
