Improved delivery helps lift the Suns

- TERRY WILSON

GOLD Coast forward-line coach Ashley Prescott acknowledges that improvement in delivery has been a key factor behind a lift in the Suns’ attacking potency.

The Suns made it back-toback wins against Hawthorn at the weekend, coming after they downed West Coast, and Prescott attributed that to improved service from downfield.

Not to mention stability in formation, he said.

“It has changed a bit from time to time with a different mix of players in there but it has been pleasing probably the last three weeks in particular that we’ve had some stability down there,” he said.

“We currently have a good balance of tall and medium.

“And our challenge as a team and a forward group is to maintain that intensity and forward-50 pressure, which was good on the weekend.

“But we’ve got to make it an every-time thing.”

The return of ex-Brisbane Lion Pearce Hanley to the half-back and centre lines has been a bonus.

So has the rise of exciting Jack Martin who, with Gary Ablett, has been instrumental in the quality of possession heading to the likes of Tom Lynch and Peter Wright.

Prescott does not expect any changes to the line-up to take on Carlton this weekend.

Prescott played down suggestions that the Suns had previously pencilled in the Blues as a possible home win.

That line was certainly put to bed after the Blues stunned title fancies GWS Giants on Sunday.

“Carlton were tremendous,” Prescott said. “We have enormous respect for them.”
