3 years jail for hold-up

A MAN who stabbed a Main Beach shopkeeper in the neck during an attempted armed robbery has been sentenced to three years’ jail.

Joseph Dagg, 28, of Main Beach, pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery with personal violence and wounding and entering premises with intent after he held up a 7Eleven last year. He will be released on parole in December.

Southport District Court. heard Dagg entered the store drunk with a kitchen knife at 2.30am and demanded money before he became involved in a scuffle with the attendant.

Legal Aid defence barrister Claire Boothman said Dagg had not deliberate­ly tried to stab the shop keeper but he was injured during the scuffle.
