ORMEAU mother Marni Dakin has welcomed the decision to build a new school in the city’s northern corridor.

The Labor Government yesterday announced it would spend $32 million on education infrastructure on the Coast in 2017-18.

Nearly $12 million will go to a $32 million new school in Coomera. It will be built next year and open in 2019.

“A new state school in the north is great news because the classrooms are packed and investing in things like education is investing in the future,” said Ms Dakin, mother to Emily, 8 and Farrah, 5.

Other Gold Coast projects include:

• $4.4 million for classrooms at Caningeraba State School, Burleigh Waters.

• $4.5 million for hall and classrooms at Pimpama State School.

• $5.6 million to complete the fourth stage of Pimpama State Secondary College.

• $4.5 million for classrooms and building at Southport Special School.

• $1.2 million for classrooms at Tamborine Mountain State High School.

Budget papers reveal an extra $950 million will be spent in school infrastructure across the state while $25.6 million will go to the foreign student International Education and Training Strategy.
