Quarry battle resumes

Take us to our Leader

-

LABOR has chosen financial planner Georgi Leader to take on Jann Stuckey for the seat of Currumbin in the upcoming state election.

The mother-of-two previously took on Mudgeeraba MP Ros Bates in 2015. Ms Bates won that contest with about 60 per cent of the vote.

“Along with my partner, I’m raising our two young children here on the southern Gold Coast and am committed to making sure local families have access to first-class health and education services, and the opportunity to find work close to home,” Ms Leader said. MINING giant Boral will appeal against a Planning and Environment Court decision against its proposed Reedy Creek quarry.

In May, the court dismissed Boral’s earlier appeal against a 2014 Gold Coast City Council vote to refuse its application.

Boral’s state general manager Simon Jeffery said the company would not give up on its push to develop and would now pursue the matter at the Court of Appeal.

“Boral believes this project is important for the Gold Coast,” he said. “That is why we have decided to pursue further legal avenues.”
