Cross river site set up
THE Queensland government has announced development work on its Cross River Rail project, confirming the former GoPrint site at Wooloongabba will be transformed into a Cross River Rail stop and an interchange with Brisbane City and Brisbane Metro.
The State Budget allocated an extra $1.95 billion towards the $5.4 billion project, allowing the development to move ahead despite reluctance of the Turmbull government to help fund it. But Deputy Premier Jackie Trad yesterday insisted the government was still chasing the federal government to contribute. “It is time for Malcolm Turnbull to come to the party, but we’re not waiting for him.”
Opposition leader Tim Nicholls claimed the actual cost of the project would be closer to $14 billion than $5.4 billion.
