Bouncer guilty of assault

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING

A GOLD Coast security guard and former soldier has been found guilty of a one-punch attack on another man at a Glitter Strip hotel in 2014.

Dennis Hecta Tipene Faulkner was yesterday convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to Dominic Beinke at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in the early hours of February 9, 2014.

The 32-year-old was punched square in the face by a Surfers Paradise hotel security guard and had his jaw broken and teeth knocked out.

He and his two brothers were visiting the Gold Coast from Sydney for an engagement party at Isle of Capri.

Mr Beinke said he was unable to eat solid food for about five months after the incident.

During the trial, the Sydney man gave evidence of waking up in a “puddle of blood” after being coward-punched by Faulkner after a verbal altercation between the pair and Mr Beinke’s brother.

Faulkner was found guilty by a jury after they deliberated for one day. He will be sentenced tomorrow.

Outside court Mr Beinke said the assault had affected his ability to work as a licensee.

“I was an operations manager for a big venue with lots of security guards and it really affected how I could deal with them and look at them and I had to work past that,” he said.

“If he came and apologised the next day in hospital maybe things would have gone down differently.”
