’I bought gun part off ebay’

-

A GOLD Coast man has been handed a good behaviour bond after ordering a gun part off eBay.

Jackson Hough yesterday pleaded guilty to the intentional importation of the detachable folding stock after he ordered it online from Israel and asked for it to be shipped to his Benowa address without the requisite approval.

He bought it for about $150 from eBay, the Southport Magistrates Court was told.

The court yesterday heard customs intercepted the package in December last year and Hough’s Gold Coast property was later raided by police.

Defence lawyer Jason Jacobson said the importation of the item was not “nefarious” and his client told police “he didn’t think anything of it” because he’d bought it on eBay.

“He always went shooting with his grandad ... he told police he didn’t think anything of it because it was on eBay,” Mr Jacobson said. “There was no sinister overtone to the stock.”

Magistrate Dermot Keogh sentenced Hough to six months’ jail suspended for three years with a $3000 recognisance.
