Thaiday comeback tip

AUSTRALIAN coach Mal Meninga says Sam Thaiday is still in contention for the Kangaroos’ World Cup campaign despite his shock axing from the Queensland State of Origin team.

Thaiday’s 29-game Origin career ground to a halt this week as one of seven changes to the Maroons squad.

But Meninga has backed the veteran to push for World Cup selection.

“Sam has played 28 fantastic games for Queensland and had one off night,” Meninga said.
