Maguire OK with ruling

-

SOUTH Sydney coach Michael Maguire is adamant shoulder charge rule changes this year are a success despite the high rate of players cleared at judiciary hearings.

Titans prop Jarrod Wallace became the fourth player to avoid suspension in five cases this season, most of them arguing it was the attacking player who initiated contact.

The NRL in February changed the law so a player would be charged if their contact was forceful and they didn’t use arms in the tackle.

Maguire, who is part of the NRL competition committee, believes the change to the rule had worked.

He said the main goal was to have players more aware of instances of the shoulder charge, the most blatant of which have been mostly eradicated in recent years.
