Poor Port need sharp turnaround

-

PORT Adelaide vice-captain Ollie Wines believes the Power needs to sharpen up in how quickly they react after a turnover and be better switched on when defending to turn the heavy loss to Essendon into an anomaly.

Wines said the Power players and coaches had had a searching review of the match and the thing that had stood out was a lack of defensive action that had been so strong in previous matches.

It allowed Essendon to make them look pedestrian with their pacy list and Wines said all the chasing had been taxing.

“It probably came down to our defence – our reaction time when we did lose the ball was not on,” Wines said.

“Defensively we had to work the hardest we’d had to (this season) because our reaction time caused us to be behind our opponents and chase them all day. We pride ourselves on defending our turnovers but we conceded a crazy amount of points to our own turnovers.

“That’s something we have to fix up ... our positioning defensively.”

“Obviously the weekend was very disappointing and we take responsibility.”
