Lifesaver’s just reward
FOUR months after rescuing two men from a rip, Gold Coast surf lifesaver Rachel Eddy has received a national award.
Ms Eddy, 19, was invited to Parliament House in Canberra where she was presented with the National Rescue of the Month award.
The Kurrawa surf lifesaver had just started her shift at the surf club restaurant when she was called into action.
She said a member of the public had already grabbed a board so she paddled out with it and grabbed the first man before swimming back out to grab the second.
“Now I look back on it, it’s pretty crazy I went out there when it was almost dark,” she said.
“I didn’t even think twice, just let my training kick in, yeah, it’s pretty cool.”
