Gas dearer, not scarce

SANTOS chief Kevin Gallagher says Australia is not facing a gas shortage and has attacked governments for failing to support new projects in the energy industry.

Mr Gallagher says government “distractions” and a failure to support new developments are responsible for the high prices threatening industry and households.

“Gas prices have increased because all the cheap gas has been developed, so it is costing more to get gas out of the ground,” he said yesterday.
