Live Fast too classy

- TOM BOSWELL @ThomasBoswell1

LIVE Fast won above his class at the Gold Coast on Saturday and trainer Tony Sears is considering trying to do it again in his next run.

The four-year-old gelding won the Class 5 Handicap (1100m) by 3.8 lengths on a heavy track with respected hoop Daniel Griffin onboard.

It was Live Fast’s fourth win from 20 starts and despite the step up in class, Sears was always confident his form and love for the wet would make him a threat.

“He is really good in the wet and has been very unlucky in his last couple of starts,” Toowoomba-based Sears said.

“He is just a good, honest horse. I was confident when it was wet.

“He goes the same on good ground but he excels in the wet.”

Live Fast had been placed at his previous five runs, including two seconds at Eagle Farm, leading into Saturday’s win.

“He had some bad barriers and (at his previous run) on the Gold Coast he had barrier one but he got caught on the fence and went for a couple of runs but never got out. “His win was true to form.” Sears had Live Fast nominated for a race at the Sunshine Coast yesterday where he was slugged with 59kg but decided to head to the Gold Coast where he carried 56.5kg.

Live Fast has been in work for the past year but has managed to stay fresh by spending time at Sears’ farm at Charlton, just outside Toowoomba.

“I don’t do much with him,” Sears said.

“I have got a little farm out of time and he spends a lot of time out there in the paddock and so he has been able to stay up for a bit.

“I do that with a few of the horses. I have got some good facilities, around 30 acres, outside of Toowoomba.”

Sears said Live Fast would either race at the Sunshine Coast in a couple of weeks or at Doomben soon after that in a Class 6.

Griffin’s victory on Live Fast was his third at the Gold Coast meeting after riding Principessa and Savwell to success in the opening two races of the day.
