ONLY walls may be separating them but Sea World’s polar bear cub will never get to play with dad Hudson.

The two-month-old is just weeks away from venturing out of the maternity den to make its first public appearance.

But the young cub won’t be heading to Polar Bear Shores for a wrestle with dad and uncle Nelson any time soon.

Sea World director of marine sciences Trevor Long said the cub will stay with mum Liya for at least two-and-ahalf years. “In the wild, male polar bears have been known to predate on female bears with cubs,” he said.

Mr Long added that staff believe the cub, which has yet to be named, is likely a female.

“At this point we are 90 per cent sure it’s a girl from the footage captured inside the maternity den,” he said.

Mr Long said the cub is now the size of a labrador puppy.
