WORLD’S LARGEST SOLAR PLANT

-

China is on a mission to change its status as one of the world’s worst CO2 emitters and it’s betting on solar. Chinese energy company Sungrow Power Supply has built an impressive 40-megawatt solar power plant in eastern China. The plant was built atop a flooded former coal-mining town, Huainan city in Anhui Province and is expected to generate 800 megawatts a year. Another company ‘Minsheng New Energy Investment Company’ is developing the Ningxia solar project, a 2GW solar farm in the Ningxia region which will be made up of some 6 million solar panels. According to the National Energy Administration, 11 per cent of China’s energy use is renewable. By 2030, China hopes to get that number at least up to 20 per cent as one of its goals in the Paris accord.
