ENERGY MILESTONE

-

The National Grid, the body that owns and manages the power supply around the UK, said in a tweet recently: “For the first time ever this lunchtime wind, nuclear and solar were all generating more than both gas and coal combined.” This is a huge milestone for the UK which is phasing out fossil fuel to meet its climate change commitments. Currently its electricity is sourced from nuclear 37.5 per cent, wind 23.3 per cent, gas 18.7 per cent, imports 7.6 per cent, solar 7.2 per cent, biomass 2.9 per cent and coal 2.4 per cent. All coal-fired power stations will be shut by 2025.
