Kevvie’s invite for Inglis in camp
KEVIN Walters has reached out to injured superstar Greg Inglis as the Queensland coach seeks an inspirational edge to prevent the collapse of a Maroons dynasty tonight.
Walters has invited Inglis to Camp Maroon to help Queensland square the series – and keep their record reign intact – in Origin II tonight at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.
Queensland’s preparations for Origin I last month were rocked by revelations Inglis, a 30-game Origin champion, had checked into a mental health facility in his battle with depression.
With Inglis sidelined for the season with a knee injury, Walters had plans to use him as a member of his Maroons support staff before he learned of the Souths skipper’s personal plight.
But with Inglis back at Souths training, Walters believes the presence of the greatest tryscorer in Origin history in Queensland’s innersanctum can inspire a Maroons fightback.
“I have invited Greg into camp to be with us,” Walters said last night.
“I know what it would mean for the players to see Greg’s face in camp.”
