’1000 likes – or I’ll drop the baby’

-

A MAN who dangled a terrified baby out of a 15-storey window so he could get likes on the social media website Facebook has been jailed.

In the sickening photographs, a terrified tot can be seen held by the scruff of his Tshirt out of an open window of an apartment building.

The man, a relative of the young boy, captioned the images with: “1000 likes or I drop him”. The shocking stunt took place in a residence in the Algerian capital of Algiers on Sunday and quickly sparked panic and outrage.

The Sun newspaper reports the man held the child there, some 45m above the ground, while filming the incident. Disgusted viewers quickly contacted police and the man, who has not been named in local press, was arrested and charged with child abuse.

Local news service Al Arabiya said the child was “in a state of fear and bewilderment”.

In court, prosecutors revealed he had carried out the sick stunt simply to gain a high number of views and likes on the social media site.

Media activist Dalila Belkheir said the man was “not a father but a terrorist”. The child’s father pleaded with the court to forgive the man, saying he was just playing a game.

But he was found guilty yesterday and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
