Huge Southport site on market for $15 million

- QUENTIN TOD

THE Neumann family, which for nearly 70 years has helped build the Gold Coast, has put a major Southport industrial site on the market at $15 million.

The 3.84ha vacant property, at 44-64 Hinde St, has been owned by Neumann companies since 1983.

It was bought by Nucrush for $280,000 and 11 years later transferred for $385,000 to Vallidew, a company whose directors include industry veterans John and Bruce Neumann.

James Stevenson, of Savills, said the decision to market the land was taken after an approach from a major group wanting a quality site for a flagship southeast Queensland distribution centre.

“That’s not the first interest shown in the property but it was the catalyst for the decision to put it out there in the open market.

“The land, by virtue of its size and central position, is expected to draw both international and national interest – it’s the biggest infill industrial site available in the central Gold Coast.

“We know groups such as US retailer Costco have perused the Gold Coast for land.”

The Neumanns mooted selling the site six years ago and the Gold Coast City Council is believed to have looked at developing the site to build an income stream.

The council instead bought an already developed warehouse property in nearby Middleton St for $21.05 million.

The Neumann land has sat idle since it was bought, apart from clean fill from group projects being added.

The Neumann Group, since 1948, has helped shape the Gold Coast via its steel, civil construction, petroleum, dredging, mineral sands, concrete, quarrying and land development businesses.

Land in Hinde St is zoned low-impact industry, which allows for manufacturing, production and processing activities, along with storage and distribution activities.
