-

CONSISTENT stayer Rudy will join some of Australia’s best gallopers if he can carry top weight to win the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup at Doomben tomorrow.

Rudy has 59.5kg in the Cup (2200m) and only three horses have carried more to win the race since World War II.

In the metric era, Doomben Cup winner Sapio holds the weight-carrying record at 60.5kg in 1997.

Weight-for-age star of the 1960s Winfreux won the Tatt’s Cup in 1966 and 1967, carrying 60.5kg in the second.

Cox Plate winner Dhaulagiri carried 60kg when he won the Tatts Cup in 1962.

Rudy will tomorrow be reunited with Sydney jockey Tim Clark, rode the Gold Coasttrained gelding to second in the Group 2 O’Shea Stakes and third in the Group 1 Doomben Cup but missed his last-start fifth in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.
