Moore in a hurry to get into the action

-

A “NEW” Wallabies captain in the time-honoured role of starter stepped up yesterday to hose down shallow grabs for external motivation.

Stephen Moore was every bit the serious, balanced Test leader again as the time-share arrangement with Michael Hooper lapsed for tomorrow’s clash against Italy.

The hooker was quickly into rhythm on a clinic visit to Coorparoo State School where he recognised the humble concrete pitch as the scene of a hundred in under-14s cricket last century.

His first lusty shot was to put the grievances of Facebook fan Jack Quigley in perspective after his spray at the Wallabies for the ragged nature of the loss to Scotland.

“We certainly feel how the fans feel (disappointed), and we take that on board,” Moore said.

“But, at the end of the day you need your own strong motivation from within to perform because if you are looking for external motivation it’s a bit shallow.”

The Wallabies have roused themselves to powerful one-off wins in the past when cornered by public anger after shabby defeats but Moore wants greater fibre to this team.

“Young and old, it’s about consistency in our behaviours and driving a winning culture,” Moore said.

“We’ve been honest with what went wrong and this Test can’t come quick enough.”
