Bad start to road toll

QUEENSLAND has had a horror start to the school holidays with five deaths and and a number of serious injuries following a string of smashes over the weekend. On Saturday, a 35-year-old female motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car near Townsville and a 56-year-old man died when a truck rolled south of Emerald.

Three other people died in another accident involving a minibus and semi-trailer on the Bruce Highway, also in the state’s north. Two men are in a critical condition after a car crash at Mount Nebo, north of Brisbane, just after midnight.
