Matildas move up ranks

THE Matildas have scored on the latest FIFA women’s rankings, jumping up the ladder into seventh place.

The Australian women’s team now sit just a place behind Japan.

With qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 now under way across Europe and Asia, there has been plenty of movement in the world rankings.

In the last rankings Germany had taken the top spot off the US for the first time in more than two years.

But on the latest ranking they have given up their position to their old foes.

The US regained top spot after four impressive consecutiv­e wins against Russia (twice), Sweden and Norway.

Canada retook fourth place from England thanks to a win over Sweden with Tajikistan (108th) and Kosovo (109th) entering the table for the first time. France are in third place.
