No same-sex vote – PM
MALCOLM Turnbull says he has “no plans” to bring on a parliamentary vote on samesex marriage as he moved to extinguish the threat of further division within his ranks.
The Prime Minister has played down a secret recording of his senior minister and ally Christopher Pyne letting slip that the Coalition government was planning to move on the issue “sooner than everyone thinks”.
Mr Pyne’s comments at a factional gathering on Friday night incensed former prime minister Tony Abbott, who accused him of not being “fair dinkum” with the public.
“To dump the plebiscite, to do anything without a plebiscite, would be a breach of faith with the people,” Mr Abbott said.
The plebiscite was voted down in November.
