MOVE over MasterChef, these cute junior cooks are taking over the kitchen.

Australia Fair Metro at Southport is holding free Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes this week as part of a winter school holiday program.

Children will brush up on their culinary skills by plating up healthy meals.

MasterChef and Mystery Diners fanatics Xavier Xue, 10 and Sayuri Xian, 8, from Oxenford, said they both enjoyed a kitchen challenge.

“I would really like to learn how to make my favourite sushi, aburi salmon,” Xavier said.

“I like helping my mum in the kitchen and I watch a lot of cooking shows to keep up.”

Sister Sayuri said she didn’t mind carbs once in a while.

“My favourite food is Italian,” she said.

“I also like acai bowls and Greek yoghurt with lots of fruits.”

Junior chefs will learn to master simple healthy recipes during the 30-minute cooking session, which includes a bento box complete with a vegemite sandwich, seasonal vegetables, fruit and a surprise dessert.

Kids in the Kitchen runs until Friday, June 30 at the shopping centre.

Bookings are essential. Go to australiafairmetro.com.au
