SHIFTS/TRAINING

• EMDs work four days on, four days off in 12-hour shifts on a rotating roster.

• 12-15 month process as a “student”, including trips on the road with paramedics including: Seven weeks at the Queensland Ambulance Service Education College in Brisbane; buddy system for up to eight weeks listening into calls; three of four months by yourself taking inbound emergency calls; 12-week dispatcher course; mental assessment; weekly audits of calls – if an EMD fails too many times, they can be taken off duty.
