MOST letters are a big whinge (including mine). But this time I am sending a big ‘thank you’ to whoever, council or State Government, fixed up the southern end of Bermuda Street.
What a difference! And so quick! Hope it lasts. JENNIFER HORSBURGH IT WAS another gorgeous day on the Gold Coast. As I strolled to my local cafe for breakfast, clad only in shorts, T-shirt and joggers, birds were singing, the sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.
To one recently arrived from the south, it couldn’t get much better than this.
But then, when I read the paper (GCB, 21/6) I discovered I’d been living in blissful ignorance.
This was the winter solstice and “After today we’ll emerge from the depths of winter”.
Suddenly my mind was transported to Siberian wastelands and to northern Norway where 24hour darkness prevails for weeks on end and even to my native Scotland where winters are frequently long and harsh.
Later, as I wandered home, the birds still singing and the sun still shining, I pondered this state of affairs and hoped that, God willing, I might enjoy, not endure, many more depths of winter here on the glorious Gold Coast. GAVIN HARPER I REFER to the article “Children off the agenda” (GCB, 21/6).
It said that according to the ABS data there will be more couples without children than there will be with children between 2021-30.
It’s interesting the headline uses the word “agenda” as it gives a clue to the source of the ABS data – the UN documents titled Agenda 21 and Agenda 30.
Both of these documents outline a “blueprint” of what our society should look like in the years ahead.
Unfortunately the article does not mention the world’s depopulation process that are about to start to achieve this imbalance between couples without and with children. WHEELS, COOMBABAH I’VE lived on the Gold Coast for over a year but have only just had my first visit to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The park is clean, spacious, well-maintained and the great variety of animals are well-housed and cared for.
A special thank you to the great staff and terrific volunteers. These volunteers seem to be mostly elderly retirees and are all so friendly.
What great ambassadors they are for us to the park’s many visitors – domestic and international. COLIN HAUVILLE
THE CEO Sleepout at Cbus Stadium last week has no doubt raised money for a good cause but why emphasise the fact it is being done by the GC’s most powerful businessmen who no doubt will have has full bellies and feather-filled sleeping bags and possibly a Bundaberg blanket sleeping in a secure area?
Why not try it for a week or month under one of the local bridges with just hessian bags and newspapers to keep you warm. BARNEY, GOLD COAST
