Boy, they’re back

- CAMERON ADAMS

CULTURE Club will tour Australia in November and December – for the third time in 18 months.

The new tour will capitalise on Boy George’s revitalised popularity after his stint as a judge on The Voice this year.

The British band, who are also working on a new album, will embark on a UK tour in July after George’s Voice commitments end next week.

Thompson Twins’ frontman Tom Bailey will be the special guest. He will perform all the Thompson Twins’ hits including Hold Me Now, Doctor Doctor, You Take Me Up, In the Name of Love, King For a Day, Lies, Love on Your Side, We Are Detective and Lay Your Hands on Me.

Bailey has not toured Australia since the Thompson Twins’ visit in 1985 at the peak of their commercial success. Band mates Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway no longer perform live with Bailey, who has been playing the retro circuit internationally for the past three years, ending his long hiatus away from music.

Culture Club play Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on November 30, Sydney’s ICC Theatre on December 1, Brisbane Entertainment Centre on December 2, Newcastle Entertainment Centre on December 3, Wollongong Entertainment Centre on December 5, Canberra AIS on December 6, Adelaide Entertainment Centre on December 9 and Perth Arena on December 9.

They will be joined by Australian band Eurogliders on each date, except Perth where UK electro band The Human League will join the bill.

The Human League will shortly announce their own headline theatre tour of Australia in mid December.

Culture Club scored rave reviews for their last two visits – in December and June last year – with a set featuring hits Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, It’s a Miracle, Miss Me Blind, Victims, Karma Chameleon, Church of the Poison Mind, Time (Clock of the Heart) and I’ll Tumble 4 Ya.
