Labrador on the offensive for title campaign

- TERRY WILSON terry.wilson@news.com.au

LABRADOR have emerged as the real deal in their quest for a maiden Brisbane Hockey League premiership this year.

A fortnight after being the first team to beat ladder leaders Eastern Suburbs, the Tigerstix maintained their full-on offensive flair with a 10-1 trouncing of struggling Redcliffe Leagues at Keith Hunt Park over the weekend.

The Tigerstix could have easily suffered a letdown after their mighty 2-0 win over Easts but this star-studded team appears to mean business this time around.

Labrador’s three internationals – Kookaburras striker Dylan Wotherspoon (three), former Kookaburra Jason Wilson (two) and Brazil Olympic Games representative Adam Imer – all found the net in the weekend romp.

Second-placed Labrador led 2-0 after 22 minutes from goals by Wilson and Corey Weyer.

Redcliffe hit back but three goals in seven minutes to Weyer, Joe Reardon and Wotherspoon had Labrador take a 5-1 lead into half-time.

The Tigerstix then scored five unanswered goals after halftime, Weyer and Reardon both scoring twice.

Next-up for Labrador are erratic Kedron-Wavell who play the Tigerstix at Labrador Families Field on Saturday (2.30pm). The Wolves are arguably the BHL’s most erratic team. They have won their last two games by huge margins – 9-2 against Norths last weekend and 11-2 against Redcliffe in Round 10. However, before that Kedron-Wavell lost 2-8 to Easts and 2-8 to University of Queensland.
