CLUBS CASH IN ON THE BIG FIGHT

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

GOLD Coast sports bars and clubs are gearing up for one of the biggest boxing bouts in Australia’s history.

On Sunday boxing greats Manny Pacquiao and Australian-born Jeff Horn will go fist to fist at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane as they battle for the title of WBO World Welterweight.

But for those who can’t make the fight in person, Melbas on the Park has arranged stadium seating around their huge screen so you can feel like you’re almost there.

Marketing manager Claire Trimmer said it would be a great atmosphere and the special seating was nearly sold out.

“We’re not usually booked out for boxing so it’s pretty cool,” she said.

“We get heaps of people for the classic fights, but this is definitely the most hyped up boxing (bout).”

At The Star in Broadbeach, up to 1400 people will pack into the theatre to watch on the mega screen, with others expected to head into the sports bar.

In Southport, patrons of CSi Club Southport will be able to watch the live fight on at least 11 screens.
