More Aussies given a say on Oscar winners

-

CHRIS Hemsworth and Margot Robbie may not have Oscars, but they can help decide who wins them.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has beefed up its Australian membership.

Invitations to join Hollywood’s most exclusive club have gone out to Hemsworth, Robbie (pictured) and Rebel Wilson, writer-director-producer Jocelyn Moorhouse (The Dressmaker and Proof) and musicians Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

They and at least a dozen other Aussies are among 774 industry insiders from 57 countries to get the nod, a huge bump in the annual total the academy usually hands out. It will now have more than 7000 members.

It has been on a membership drive after being criticised for a lack of diversity among those who vote for the Oscars.
