No nukes retreat

NEW YORK: North Korea’s UN ambassador has warned the United States and the rest of the world that his country will keep building up its nuclear arsenal. Kim In Ryong told the UN Security Council: “No matter what others say, whatever sanctions, pressure and military attack may follow, we will not flinch from the road to build up nuclear forces.”

Toll months off

LONDON: British police say it could take until the end of the year until the final death toll from a London tower block blaze is known. At least 80 people are dead, or missing and presumed dead, from the inferno that gutted the 24storey Grenfell Tower block in west London on June 14 as families and children slept.

WWII bomb scare

REGENSBURG: A prison in the south-eastern German city of Regensburg was evacuated yesterday after an unexploded bomb from World War II was found near the site. The 225kg aerial bomb was found during work at a constructi­on site. It will be disarmed this weekend.

Palace rammed

BRASILIA: Security forces in Brazil’s capital have detained a minor who allegedly rammed a car through a gate at the presidenti­al palace. Guards first fired warning shots, then when the vehicle failed to slow, they fired at the car and it stopped. The driver was not hurt.
