How Mayor Tate saved wife’s life

Mayor Tom Tate saved his wife Ruth’s life when she collapsed without warning just minutes before boarding a flight to Europe. Mrs Tate, 59, experienced a serious cardiac arrest while walking though Singapore’s Changi Airport handin-hand with her husband, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate. The heart attack was so serious, medical staff performed an emergency evacuation to Changi General Hospital where Mrs Tate was placed in an induced coma.

$2.5m facelift for Coast’s bumpiest road

The Gold Coast’s bumpiest road is getting a $2.5 million facelift. Resurfacing work has begun on a 2km section of Bermuda St that is so bumpy in parts, motorists often pull over to make sure they don’t have a flat tyre. Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the 2km southern section of Bermuda St was originally designed and constructed with expansion joints installed between the concrete slabs on the road – not an unusual practice.
