IT is just over 20 years since J.K. Rowling, a single mum on benefits, sat in an Edinburgh cafe writing her first book.

Now thanks to the magic of Harry Potter, she has been named by Forbes as this year’s world’s wealthiest author. According to the magazine, she earned $121.9 million in the 12 months up to June from the boy wizard’s $33.8 billion global franchise of films, theme parks and merchandise and the stage play Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.

Rowling has an estimated worth of $1.1 billion.
