SICK SARAH REFUSED TO GIVE UP

- KRISTY MUIR

SARA Tait didn’t get to revel in her glory as she won the Wheelchair Marathon yesterday.

Instead she was quickly ushered to the medical tent suffering from hot flushes, nausea and dizziness.

The 19-year-old Labrador athlete has a number of health issues related to her hydrocephalus, a build-up of fluid on the brain.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games No.2 ranked para-triathlon aspirant showed guts to finish in the race, clocking 2 hours 35 minutes.

“It was a real struggle today,” Father David said.

“She started hurting pretty badly about 10 to 15km in.

“This is not her sport, she is a para-triathlete.

“She likes to do this race as it is her home race. It was just a long day at the office ... she’s hasn’t been at the best of health lately.”

Sara was told by her neurologist she needed to stop racing and focus on resting after a block was found in her shunt which is used to drain the fluid off her brain.

She has also been diagnosed with an iron deficiency, which has left her fatigued.
