Hannant springs a Spida surprise
THE battle of the Gold Coast radio personalities has delivered a stunning upset.
Following a week of smack talk on the airwaves, rugby league player turned Sea FM announcer Ben Hannant smashed former AFL player turned Gold FM announcer Spida Everitt in the marathon.
Hannant – a 32-year-old former Maroons prop forward – finished in a solid time of 3hr 49min. He averaged 5:26 per kilometre.
Everitt – a 43-year-old who started his football career with St Kilda – crossed the line in 4:36, averaging 6:33 per kilometre.
The 50-minute trouncing was not expected by the bookies at sportsbet.com.au who on Friday listed Everitt as a $1.50 favourite to win while Hannant was paying $2.50.
