One in 10 workers tracked 24 hours a day

-

ONE in three workers has been tracked by an employer using GPS software, a new study has revealed.

Two-thirds of the workers were kept in the dark about being tracked, raising fears some employers could be breaking the law.

The survey, by software company TSheets, found more than 36 per cent of workers are being tracked by their employer using GPS, with almost one in 10 reporting a negative experience. Half of the workers are being tracked with a GPS application installed on their phone.

It also found more than 10 per cent of workers are being tracked 24 hours a day, while almost half are tracked during the work day and only onethird are told that they are being tracked.

TSheets analyst Sandy Vo said the data showed most workers seemed comfortable with being tracked.

“The data shows how many employers are using GPS tracking now and that’s not just in vans and cars but in apps as well, and that’s really a reflection of life outside of work,” she said.

Of the workers being tracked, more than a half were concerned about their phone battery being drained and too much data use.
