Fire damage at Coast spa

-

A LOUD bang sent shoppers into the street after a fire broke out in a Bundall health spa, damaging the building.

No one was inside the Lella Hamman Bath and Spa on Ashmore Rd when it caught fire about 9.30am yesterday.

Shoppers at nearby Harvey Norman were startled by a loud noise before witnessing plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

Coombabah resident Marilyn Graham said the bang sent shoppers out to the street.

“We heard something go bang,” she said. “There was smoke billowing from the back.”

The smoke cloud from the fire could been seen in Surfers Paradise and Southport.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Inspector Todd Murray said it was too early to say what had started the fire.
